In their first event since the USA Archery Outdoor 3D Nationals in the fall, the Flames and Lady Flames sharpened their focus and fine-tuned their sights for this weekend’s regional shoot in Harrisonburg, Va.
Liberty University's men's and women's archery teams competed at the Lancaster Classic on Jan. 23-24 in Manheim, Pa. The team was originally scheduled to also compete in the Easton Youth and Collegiate Tournament, but due to weather, the team only competed in the Lancaster Classic. Â
Â
Sophomore Rylee Poullath competed in women's compound.
Two Liberty archers placed in the women's bowhunter event: senior Alexandra Comer, who finished 30th, and junior Kayla Cassady, who placed 34th. Sarah Houpt placed 47th in the women's recurve event while fellow freshman Emily Housepain competed in women's compound with sophomore Rylee Poullath.Â
Freshman Samuel Hunter represented the Flames in the men's recurve event while Libert had two shooters compete in the men's bowhunter event: senior Hayden Teague and junior Adam Pluff.  Â
Following this competition, the team had a week off from practices due to the weather. Â
"We had a bit of a break because of all the snow, but we have come back well into practice," Liberty Head Coach Jason Lynch said. "Our Assistant Coach Lance Ranck has come on board and worked on integrating with the team and fine-tuning equipment to be in condition for the indoor season, which has been super helpful. Also, coaching the mental game and working with the archers on their individual performance throughout practice will set us up well for the rest of the season."  Â
On Friday and Saturday, the Flames and Lady Flames will travel to Harrisonburg, Va., to compete in the East Regional shoot of the USA Archery Collegiate Indoor Nationals. Last year, Cassady placed first in the East Region and second in the country in the women's barebow division. This weekend, she has decided to switch divisions to women's fixed pins.Â
