The Flames and Lady Flames are excited to make their season debut with skilled veterans and talented newcomers as they compete in Foley, Ala.
Liberty University's Archery team has been preparing for its biggest competition yet this season, the 2025 USA Collegiate 3D National Championship in Foley, Ala. The competition is scheduled to start Thursday and conclude on Saturday.Â
The Flames and Lady Flames will have 16 members representing Liberty in various individual and mixed shooting events. The first round of qualifiers kicked off Thursday afternoon, with the second round set for Friday morning and the team competition later that afternoon. Competition will end Saturday morning.Â
All but one of the team's freshman archers will compete at this competition and make their debut with Liberty. Head Coach Jason Lynch said he is excited to see them in action, as many of the incomers competed in high school before joining Liberty's squad. Junior standout Kayla Cassidy is expected to perform well at this first competition.
"(Cassidy) always really performs at the top of the pack. She was second nationally in the spring for indoor, and she's always landed in the top couple of shooters in her class at Foley. This year she's been working really hard to try and clinch that first place spot, so we're all rooting for her, and I think it might be her year," Lynch saidÂ
This is Lynch's third year at the helm of Liberty Archery, after previously competing with the team as a member.
"Obviously my main goal overall is just that everyone has a good time and enjoys the sport," he said. "I would love to see some of our individuals place well and some of our teams place well. We've got a bigger team than we've had in the last couple of years. So, we do have the opportunity to enter a couple of more mixed teams and teams within divisions. We've got some more opportunities to bring home some hardware and I'm hoping we capitalize on that, but that's not always my first goal. I want to see everybody enjoy the sport, compete well, and compete with character."Â
After 3D Outdoor Nationals, the team will set their sights on 2026 USA Archery Indoor Nationals held Feb. 27 through March 1, 2026, in Harrisonburg, Va., where the Flames and Lady Flames had an impressive show last year with many archers ranking highly in the region.Â
