Liberty’s representatives excelled in Saturday’s and Sunday’s USA Archery competition in Harrisonburg, Va.
Second-place team finishes from its Men's Compound and Men's Fixed Pin archers highlighted Liberty University's archery team's strong showing at the USA Archery Collegiate Target East Regionals this past weekend at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.
"We had a really good team performance, one of our best ever at regionals," Flames and Lady Flames Head Coach Jason Lynch said. "It was an older team, with more juniors and senior this year who brought a lot of experience and a lot of skills to the competition."
After qualifying 10th out of 20 archers in the ranking round, junior Shane Heard placed third individually by hitting 138 out of 150 targets from 50 yards in his Men's Compound finals showdown with Alfred (N.Y.) State University's Brandon Stanton, who hit 134.
In the Team Finals, Liberty's trio of senior Trevor Hill, freshman Ryan Lynn, and junior Shane Heard finished runner-up to Pennsylvania College of Technology's Eli Bartron, Colby Dell, and Cannon Youndt, 220-212.Â

Meanwhile, freshman Emily Houspian teamed with Hill to form a Compound Mixed duo that reached the Team Finals, falling to MIT's Ayden Soderblom and Kiarra Ning, 148-143.
In the Men's Fixed Pins ranking round, Liberty senior Nathan Wilkins finished fourth with his 633 total followed by junior Adam Pluff (seventh, 602), senior Hayden Teague (eighth, 599), and junior Josiah Hanson (14th, 548).
Wilkins, Pluff, and Teague advanced to the Team Finals and lost to Penn College of Technology's Josiah Hinojos, Anthony Olenchak, and Tayton Roys, 211-193.
Liberty senior Alexi Comer placed second in the Women's Fixed Pin event with her 549-point total, advancing to the Finals before losing to Alfred State's Brianna Fagan, 123-96.
She then teamed up with Wilkins to reach the Fixed Pins Mixed Team Finals, losing to Alfred State's Adam Winter and Brianna Fagan, 137-124.
Samuel Hunter finished eighth in the Men's Barebow division with his round of 277 while fellow freshman Sarah Houpt landed in 11th place in Women's Recurve with her 257-point total from 70 yards.
Wilkins and Hill both were selected to the All-East Region team based on placing in the top 30% of scores combined between the USA Archery Indoor and Outdoor Regional Championships.
