The Lady Flames sharpened their ‘Rise Up’ routine for this weekend’s Boston Synchro Classic.
Liberty University's synchronized skating team traveled to Woodbridge, Va., on Nov. 1 to compete in the third annual Stars and Stripes Skating Invitational at the Prince William Ice Center. The Lady Flames were the only team competing in the Open Collegiate division and finished first.
"We attended … to gain better insight on how we can improve our score at our upcoming competitions, where we will be competing with six or more teams in the Open Collegiate division," Head Coach Hannah Pulley said.
The Lady Flames also grew in team community and chemistry through this competition.
"With this being our first competition of the season, we really were focusing on our team positivity and creating a fun and healthy competitive environment within our team as well as with the other team levels around us that were also competing," Pulley said.
The team had the opportunity to share the love of Christ with other collegiate programs while attending this event through the work of its designated Disciple Maker, junior Amber Banghart. Prayer cards were made at a recent team Bible study and were brought with the team to hand out to other coaches, skaters, and volunteers. Some skaters on the team also had the opportunity to pray with a spectator of the event.
"We prayed with her and truly felt the Lord with us in that moment, and made an impact in the skating community," Pulley said.
The Lady Flames aim to share the love of Christ in the skating community, along with representing Liberty University well at all of their competitions.
After a solid performance in its first competition, the team is looking to improve their program titled "Rise Up" throughout the season. According to Pulley, focusing on more technical elements and the synchronicity of the program will play a key role in the improvement they are looking to see in their next competition.
As another way to prepare for the pressure of competition, the Lady Flames practiced skating their routine during the first intermission of Liberty's Division I men's hockey game against Jamestown (N.D.) University on Nov. 6 at the LaHaye Ice Center.
Before Thanksgiving Break, Liberty will travel to skate in the Boston Synchro Classic in Norwood, Mass., this Friday through Sunday. The Lady Flames will compete in the Collegiate Open division against other collegiate skating programs.
