Liberty improved to 19-1 on the season after dominant wins over UNC Chapel Hill on Friday, Georgetown and West Virginia on Saturday, and Virginia in Sunday's championship game.
In the midst of sweeping its ACCHL Showcase from Friday through Sunday at the LaHaye Ice Center — outscoring opponents 47-2 to finish 4-0 over a weekend for the fourth time this season — Liberty University's ACHA Division II women's hockey team debuted at No. 1 in the Southeast Region Rankings released on Friday, marking a first in program history.
The Lady Flames (19-1) showcased their dominance from start to finish, ignited by a 23-0 thrashing of the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill on Friday morning. They followed that with Saturday morning and evening triumphs over Georgetown University (9-0) and West Virginia University (4-0), setting the stage for Sunday afternoon's 11-2 championship rout of the University of Virginia.
Patricia Misiak racked up five goals and Ella Moerman added four scores to pace Liberty's attack against the Tar Heels (0-7), with fellow freshman forward Calissa Klein and junior forwards Brylie Beddell and Reanna Cruz supplementing the scoring with two goals apiece.
Against Georgetown (2-5) in Saturday's first game, Liberty held a commanding 79-6 shot advantage and used a hat trick from sophomore forward Allison Gailitis and two goals from Cruz to cruise past the Hoyas.
Then, in the nightcap against WVU (5-8-1), sophomore forward Cora Williams tallied two goals in the second period, sandwiched by first- and third-period scores by Misiak and junior forward Guinivere Donovan, respectively, as the Lady Flames outshot the Mountaineers, 61-11.
In Sunday's final, the Lady Flames outshot the Cavaliers (6-2) by a 76-21 margin, with senior forward Madison Gaddy netting a hat trick — including Liberty's first and last goals — and junior forward Izzy Crossman recording two goals of her own.
This weekend, the Lady Flames will travel to West Chester, Pa., to challenge Rowan (N.J.) University, ranked No. 4 in the Southeast Region, on Friday at 8:15 p.m., and No. 5 Maryland on Saturday at 11:15 a.m.
