Five recruits, two transfers rebuild Lady Flames’ DI hockey roster to 22 players

Liberty picked up two more graduate transfers from Indiana Tech and brought in five true freshmen for the 2026-27 season that opens Sept. 12-13 against the Washington Pride.
Liberty University's ACHA Division I women's hockey team graduated the core of its offense from last year's team, which fell to Midland (Neb.) University in triple overtime in the national championship final near St. Louis. To help fill the gap, the Lady Flames added five freshmen recruits and two graduate transfers from ACHA Division I foe Indiana Tech.
"Our recruiting class is very similar to last year's," Liberty Head Coach Chris Lowes said. "Transfers have been valuable for us. Adding Allison Greene, one of the top forwards in the league the last few years, and Hailey Terpstra, a defenseman, both fifth-year players who are accomplished in our league, we are excited to get them."
Greene and Terpstra served as head and alternate captains, respectively, for the Warriors as seniors last season.
"They bring a winning and successful pedigree and have had a lot of success before now," Lowes said. "Beyond that, they really fit our culture as well. They are going to bring stability and leadership on and off the ice as they assimilate with the team."
He said Greene, a biomedical sciences student from Buffalo, N.Y., can help the Lady Flames pick up some of the scoring slack left by the graduation of forwards and captains Zosia Adamek, Haley Battles, and Brielle Fussy, as well as Isobel Pettem Shand, last season's graduate transfer from Indiana Tech.
"Allie brings speed and playmaking to our forward group and should play in all situations for us," Lowes said. "She was in the top five in the league. She's been a killer, and we expect her to be one of our leaders on offense and play in all situations."
Terpstra, an exercise science and wellness graduate student from Waterloo, Ontario, will help replace the leadership void left in the defensive corps by the graduation of Allison Shaw, Sammy Peebles, and alternate captain Emerson Oakes.
"Hailey is a veteran defenseman who is tough to play against," Lowes said. "We would like to see the puck on her stick because she's got great vision and a great first pass."
Greene will be complemented by three freshmen forward recruits — Jenevie Veillette, a nursing student from Brunswick, Md.; Evie McGonagle, a zoology student from Cody, Wy.; and Marissa Richard, an exercise science student from Cap-Pelé, New Brunswick.
Veillette is the Lady Flames' first recruit from the Washington Pride U19 program, which will visit the LaHaye Ice Center for Liberty's season opener on Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. and rematch on Sept. 13 at 10:45 a.m.
"Jenevie fits in really well here," Lowes said. "She is a great athlete with lots of speed, and I think she can bring energy and excitement to our lineup. I'm excited to watch her grow as a player during her rookie year. We're going to have a lot of competition with our newcomers, so it will be interesting to see how quickly she can pick up our systems."
Though she is from out West, McGonagle previously played for the Philadelphia Junior Flyers U19 girls' team.
"Evie's a good all-around player," Lowes said. "She has some size and physicality and also has a good set of hands. I look to a girl like Evie to come in and push our forwards and adjust to the college game really quickly."
Richard, who played for the same Moncton Rockets junior program that junior forward Isabella Pelletier played on previously, is a dangerous offensive threat.
"She had a really successful junior career and brings some playmaking and offense to our lineup," Lowes said. "Her shot is one of her best weapons."
Defensively, the Lady Flames padded their ranks with the additions of Charlotte Lawson, a nursing student from Victoria, British Columbia, and Kendra Garlock, a criminal justice: crime scene investigation student from Chittenango, N.Y.
"Charlotte is a big, strong, smooth-skating defenseman who is hard to play against on the defensive end, with the tools to be a threat offensively as well," Lowes said. "She's a shooter, but with her awareness on the ice, she can be a threat to score from the blue line or even off the rush."
"Kendra is an athletic defenseman who is a smooth skater and brings really good energy to our lineup," he added, comparing her style of play to that of Peyton Carle ('25).
The seven new players and 15 returning veterans will have an opportunity to get to know each other better on this weekend's team's retreat to Stone Ridge Estate in nearby Concord, Va.
