Liberty closed out its home schedule and honored its four seniors and two graduate students with 7-0 and 4-0 routs of West Virginia.
The Lady Flames (25-2), ranked No. 1 in the Southeast Region, outshot the Mountaineers by a 71-12 margin in the opener before holding a commanding 54-9 shot advantage in the rematch.
Freshman forward Ella Moerman netted a hat trick in the opener with junior forward Guinivere Donovan adding two goals before freshmen forwards Patricia Misiak and Calissa Klein capped the scoring off each other's assists late in the second period and early in the third. Senior forward Bel Gracia assisted Liberty's second, third, and fourth goals to spark the attack.
Sophomore Abby Manzewitsch made 12 saves to improve to 7-0 and record her third shutout in net.
In Saturday's second game, Liberty got goals from four different players and a second shutout in as many starts from graduate goalie Kylie Mebs since dropping back down from the Division I roster.
Sophomore forward Cora Williams started the scoring with 3:03 left in the first period off feeds from her linemates, junior Izzy Crossman and freshman Abby Rogers. Then, with 17:05 left in the second, junior forward Reanna Cruz doubled the lead off an assist from Klein before Misiak stretched the Lady Flames' advantage to 3-0 by putting away passes from Cruz and Klein. Finally, in the third, senior forward Madison Gaddy completed the scoring by converting assists from Rogers and Williams, a fitting end to Senior Night at the LIC.
Liberty is off this weekend before traveling to Michigan for two games against Lawrence Tech on Feb. 14-15 and then to Delaware for the Feb. 28-March 2 DVCHC Playoffs.
