After competing in the fall's 3D Outdoor National Championships in Alabama and last month's Easton Collegiate Tournament near Lancaster, Pa., Liberty will focus on regional and national placements at JMU.
Liberty University's men's and women's archery team placed 13 of its competitors at the Jan. 23-26 Easton Collegiate Tournament held at Spooky Nook Sports Complex, a 700,000 square foot indoor facility just outside Lancaster in Manheim, Pa.
Three Liberty archers placed in the Barebow Women's division led by senior captain Kayla Cassady, who finished fourth, followed by freshman Sarah Lindquist (15th) and junior Chloe Hamilton (16th). In the Women's Fixed Pins section, Lady Flames senior Ellen Brungard placed 18th and graduate Alexi Stutzman 20th.
Meanwhile, senior men's captain Levi Rodgers (11th) and sophomore Anson Payne (15th) shot well for the Flames in the Barebow Men's category. In the Men's Fixed Pins competition, Liberty had four shooters place: junior Nathan Wilkins took 15th and sophomore Adam Pluff 16th, followed by senior Steven Loomans in 20th. The Flames and Lady Flames both had one shooter place in the Compound category: sophomore Trevor Hill finished 19th in the Men's division and freshman Rylee Poullath came in 14th in the Women's division.
In early October, Liberty sent its entire team to compete in the USA Archery 3D Outdoor Collegiate National Championships at the Graham Creek Interpretive Center in Foley, Ala.
The captains set the standard for their respective teams as Cassady earned fourth place in the Women's Barebow division and Rodgers finished 19th in the Men's Fixed Pins category.
Next up, the Flames and Lady Flames will be competing in a regional shoot that will be scored as part of the USA Archery Indoor National Championships, Feb. 21-23 in Harrisonburg, Va.
