In the first of three games on a semester-ending North Dakota road trip, Liberty broke open the floodgates against the Beavers with two goals in the third period for a 3-0 triumph.
"It was a great game," Lady Flames Assistant Coach Frank Keating said. "Minot came out and had a great game plan to try to stop us, but (senior) Alex Keith played a great game in the goal, making a couple breakaway stops, and we put it all together in the third period."
Seven-time national champion Liberty (19-0) outshot the Beavers (6-3-5) by a 35-18 margin and extended its winning streak to 29 games as Keith made 18 saves for her seventh shutout of the season.
"Minot was able to stretch the rink and had a couple breakaways where (Keith) had to come up big to make huge stops, with the game tied 0-0 in the first and us leading 1-0 in the second," Keating said.
Sophomore forward Hayley Lee lifted the Lady Flames to a 1-0 lead with 4:30 to play in the second period, beating Beavers' netminder Jillian Ackerman unassisted after emerging from behind the cage.
"She did a good job coming around the back of the net and finished a wraparound between the keeper and the post," Keating said.
Then, in the second, with Liberty on a power play, graduate defenseman Allison Shaw received a pass from graduate forward and head captain Brielle Fussy and skated the puck in from the point before rifling a shot past Ackerman, who had no chance on the play, stretching Liberty's lead to 2-0 with 12:25 remaining in regulation.
"They gave her a lane, and she walked it in and shot it from 15-20 feet out," Keating said. "(Senior forward) Brookelyn Beauchamp had a great screen on the play, and I don't think their goalie even saw it."
Sophomore forward Presley Ellis capped the scoring unassisted with a breakaway goal with 1:16 to go.
"She picked up a misplayed puck right on the red line and drove between two defenders, protecting the puck from another defender, and lifted a beautiful, backhanded shot into the top corner on the far side," Keating said.
Liberty and Minot will play a rematch on Saturday at 4:45 p.m. back in Maysa Arena before the Lady Flames complete their three-game semester-ending road trip on Sunday at 11 a.m. at unranked Jamestown.
