Liberty went 44 minutes between scoring the game's first goal 22 seconds after the opening faceoff and the game winner in the third period.
The top-ranked Lady Flames had lost back-to-back games against ACHA competition for the first time in seventh-year Head Coach Chris Lowes' career at the helm of the team on Thursday and Friday nights against the second-ranked Warriors.
"We were happy to get a chance to bounce back quickly after the Midland games, and happy to get a win over Jamestown," Lowes said. "We made some mistakes and they capitalized on the one in the first period, but (senior goalie) Amanda (Storey) was solid in goal and we found a way to get a winner in the third."
He said the game-winning goal was desperately needed as Liberty had been shut down for more than 44 minutes after graduate forward and head captain Rianna Spanier started the scoring by finishing a feed from freshman linemate Ellie Sarauer just 22 seconds after the opening faceoff.
With 15:32 remaining in regulation, junior forward Zosia Adamak tipped in a shot by senior defenseman Peyton Carle to put the Lady Flames on top, 2-1.
"We were stymied on offense after scoring early in the first," Lowes said. "It was a great look by Carle with the hard shot on net and Zosia got a great touch on it. (Sophomore forward) Brookelyn (Beauchamp) was critical on that goal with her screen out front."
Liberty killed off the game's only penalty with 2:45 remaining in regulation after sophomore defenseman Emerson Oakes was called for tripping. Then, with Jamestown pulling its goalie in an attempt to net the equalizer, Liberty senior forward Brityn Fussy — playing in her final game for the Lady Flames before graduating later this month — capped the scoring with an empty netter assisted by her sister, junior forward Brielle Fussy.
"It was a special moment for Brityn getting the insurance goal with 11 seconds left," Lowes said. "She is a special kid who has impacted our program in so many ways, and our girls were super excited when that happened."
Liberty (12-3) outshot Jamestown (9-5) by a 61-14 count for the contest and Storey made 13 saves to secure the victory.
The Lady Flames will return to Lynchburg, Va., for final exams this week before celebrating Christmas and the New Year, when they will open spring semester play with a Jan. 18-19 series against Rhode Island at the LaHaye Ice Center.
