
DII Lady Flames split 2-1 defensive duels with Southeast Region rival Delaware

In a showdown between the Nos. 3- and 4-ranked teams in the Southeast Region, the University of Delaware's and Liberty University's ACHA Division II women's hockey teams split 2-1 decisions on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning at the LaHaye Ice Center.
The Blue Hens (11-4-1) opened a 2-0 lead in the first period of the opener before the Lady Flames (9-4-1) trimmed the deficit in half with 16:03 remaining in regulation on a goal by freshman defenseman Guinivere Donovan assisted by freshman center Isabel Crossman and junior right wing Hunter DiGrazia.
Delaware outshot Liberty, 29-27, and freshman goalie Abigail Hodsden made 27 saves in the setback.
In Saturday's rematch, the Lady Flames turned the tables on the Blue Hens, tallying two goals in the first period before allowing one in the second. Crossman opened the scoring with a power-play goal assisted by sophomore forward Isabel Gracia with 4:01 to go in the first before senior defenseman Dominique Duenas finished a feed from Donovan just 1:19 later.
Liberty outshot its guests by a 2-1 margin, 32-16, with Hodsden making 15 saves to raise her record to 7-3 and save percentage to 90.4 and lower her goals-against average to 1.88 on the season.
The Lady Flames will open spring semester play by hosting Rowan University on Jan. 13-14 at 4 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively, at the LIC in back-to-back doubleheaders with the Liberty's DII men's team, which will host the Profs later those nights.
