Currently serving as the Head Coach of the Shotgun team, Jacob has set a primary goal to maintain the spiritual and social environment that former coach Roger Johnson helped promote within the team. Prior to accepting his role as Head Coach, Jacob served as an assistant coach for two seasons and was responsible for team operations coordination and recruitment efforts. He also served as the head coach of a Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) team at a local gun club for two years prior to coaching at Liberty. He now serves as one of the State Advisors for SCTP in Virginia, organizing tournaments for high school teams throughout the state, helping kick-start new teams, and assisting existing teams with their administration needs.
Jacob graduated from Liberty with a bachelors degree in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (2021), and was formerly a student-athlete on the Shotgun team from 2017-2021. After starting to shoot shotguns at the age of 8 or 9, Davis started competing in clay target shooting when he was 10 or 11. As a sophomore at Liberty, he won an American skeet event at the ACUI Regional Championships in Maryland, and his scores contributed to the team totals at most of its tournaments that year as well as his senior season in 2020-21. Jacob is now certified as a National Sporting Clays Association (NSCA) Level 1 Shotgun Instructor.
Jacob has ten years of experience in running competitive clay target tournaments and maintaining clay target facilities, including one year working at Liberty Mountain Gun Club (LMGC). This expertise is used to set challenging targets for team practices and mirror those thrown at tournaments attended by the team, proving beneficial in preparing them for a competitive atmosphere throughout the season. Throughout his years of coaching, Jacob has led his team to be competitive at their national tournaments, where they placed as runner-up (2022), national champions (2023), and placed third (2024).
