Josh Wagner, a former Division II men's hockey forward at Liberty University, began his role as the head coach of the DIII men's hockey team in August 2023. He is also the sales operations coordinator for Club Sports concessions and the Hockey Pro Shop at the LaHaye Ice Center. Working alongside him is Assistant Coach Brennan McDonald, who brings experience as a defenseman from the BCHL and AJHL, focusing on the Flames' defensemen.
Wagner, who grew up in Coats, N.C., near Raleigh, has a strong hockey background influenced by his father, Scott, who collaborated with FCA Hockey National Director Rick Randazzo. Josh assisted his father with practice sessions and later became a counselor and on-ice instructor at the Liberty Summer Hockey Camps. “I've got good hockey knowledge and love the game,” he shares, noting mentorship from Gary Steffes, founder of the sports ministry Pure Encouragement. “God opened the door for me to have a full-time position at Liberty where I can impact students' lives every day and help raise Champions for Christ.”
