Coach Crawford has over four decades of competitive shooting experience. From 3-Position, high power, American Skeet, Silhouette pistol and rifle, and several benchrest disciplines, he has competed at all levels. After the 1998 season, where he set two different world records and was awarded the International Benchrest Shooters (IBS) “Shooter of the Year” for 1,000 yard competition, he switched his focus from competitive shooting to teaching and coaching.
Eventually finding himself at Liberty University managing the newly construction gun range, Coach Bill took on the Head Coach role for the Action Shooting Team, which competed in SASP competitions. With the help of Coach Medford and Coach Enold (then LUPD Sergeant), they won collegiate national championships in both 2020 and 2021, with the second year finding them capturing both the rifle and pistol championships. Coach Crawford then tried to see if a collegiate division of NRL competitions could be formed, but with minimal success over the next several years.
Coach Crawford stepped down for one year as a coach but was brought back in 2024 to help develop a collegiate pistol team. With the disciplines being international in nature, Coach Crawford was able to bring his prior experience to help get the team started. In its second year, the team is developing well and competing against schools from across the country in Air Pistol, as well as Sport and Standard Pistol.
