After replacing the Rifle and Action teams this year, Liberty University's Air Pistol team, under the leadership of Head Coach Bill Crawford, made its first appearance at the Scholastic Shooting Sports Foundation's (SSSF) Intercollegiate Pistol Championships, held March 13 at the Civilian Marksmanship Program in Anniston (Ala.) The Flames and Lady Flames competed in the Air Pistol category for the first time, finishing 11th out of 13 teams in a highly competitive field.
Individually, Liberty's shooters demonstrated great potential in their championship debut. Freshman Samantha Erick scored a 523, placing 45th, followed by junior Edward Rea (57th, 513), junior Jordan Munster (71st, 493), and sophomore Caleb Sellers (61st, 505).
Crawford commended the team members for their dedication and determination throughout the competition, emphasizing that this year's performance serves as a strong foundation for future success.
"We are incredibly proud of our athletes and how they represented Liberty University in this championship," Crawford said. "Their hard work and discipline have set the stage for continued improvement, and we are excited about the future of our program."
The Air Pistol team looks forward to building upon this experience and enhancing the team's standing in future competitions. With a solid start in their first season, the team is poised for growth and continued excellence in collegiate pistol shooting.
