Liberty’s thriving Club Sports programs maintain balance between athletic and academic performance with support from the Academic Advancement office.
Liberty University's Club Sports program ended the spring semester with yet another new record for academic performance, with the 692 student-athletes reaching an accumulative 3.40 grade-point average for the semester. The number was buoyed by a total of 178 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA for the semester and 361 making the Dean's List for maintaining a 3.5 GPA or better.
"We're super excited for setting a new record for the highest GPA and one of the largest groups of students we've ever had in our department," Club Sports Director of Academic Compliance Heath Grishaw said. "We are pleased to see the growth and trajectory of academic success our student-athletes continue to be on."
All 42 distinct Club Sports teams held GPAs of 3.0 or better, led by the women's beach volleyball team's program-best 3.67, followed closely by men's and women's rock climbing (3.66), men's and women's triathlon (3.64), and women's Division I hockey (3.64).
"Balancing the demands of athletics and academics is a testament to discipline and determination," said Sarah Kelly, Club Sports' associate athletic director of Academic Advancement. "Achieving a record-breaking GPA as a student-athlete is not just a milestone; it's a legacy of excellence forged through relentless commitment."
She said Club Sports' support programs such as study hall, mentoring, CS Connect, and compliance form "the backbone of student-athlete success, transforming dedication into record-breaking GPAs through structured guidance and unwavering commitment."
CS Connect is a new program that provides tools designed to help freshmen and incoming transfer student-athletes to adapt to the academic standards set by Liberty and the Club Sports department more quickly.
"With study halls fostering focus, mentoring building resilience, CS Connect sparking early connections, and compliance ensuring integrity, student-athletes are empowered to succeed academically," Kelly said. "Record-breaking GPAs are born where support meets effort — study halls sharpen minds, mentors inspire growth, CS Connect sets the foundation, and compliance keeps the path clear for student-athlete excellence."
