Liberty now prepares for Senior Night on April 11.
The Lady Flames opened play on Friday with a tight 3-2 victory over NCAA DIII Stevenson, with both losses going to three sets. Following this win, Liberty bested NCAA DIII Southern Virginia 4-1.
Liberty opened Saturday's matches with a showdown against cross-town rival Lynchburg, losing a close 3-2 battle after the Hornets' No. 1 duo edged LU's senior pairing of Brooke Elliott and Grace Cropper 16-14 in the third set.
"We were disappointed that we lost that (match) because we beat Lynchburg twice already this year," Head Coach Payton Carter said. "It is hard to beat a team three times. Lynchburg did really well. They came out hungry to beat us. Overall, we played well. I was proud of how we played in our last away tournament."
The Lady Flames rallied to win their last match of the weekend, beating junior college Richard Bland 4-1.
On March 22, Liberty's squad competed against Salem College and host Wingate University in Wingate, N.C., notching a straight-set 5-0 victory over the Spirits and besting the DII Bulldogs, 3-2.
Liberty will conclude the spring season with a Senior Night match against University of North Carolina on April 11.
"(The seniors) have put in so much work and raised the level of play of the team and our program," Carter said, noting some of the team's seniors only competed on the team for one season. "We're really proud of them and thankful for them. They've been incredible leaders for us. We're looking to honor them on and off the court when we get to that tournament."
