Liberty is out to a 13-2 start, its second-best in program history after going 25-1 in the 2024-25 regular season.
In a battle between the top two teams in the DVCHC, Liberty University's ACHA Division II women's hockey team split its series at Rowan (N.J.) University — winning Friday night's opener, 4-2 at the Hollydell Ice Arena, before being shut out for the first time this season in Saturday's rematch, 4-0 at the Pennsauken Skate Zone.
The Lady Flames (13-2) used back-to-back power-play goals by their second- and third-leading scorers — freshman forwards Calissa Klein (15G, 5A) at the end of the first period and Sabrina Honeycutt (6G, 9A) at the start of the second — to break open a 1-1 contest.
Freshman forward Pimsiri Wilhelmy started the scoring unassisted at the 14:30 mark of the first period before graduate defenseman Madison Natter extended Liberty's lead to 4-1 with 7:25 to play in the second, finishing a feed from freshman forward Emma Bardwell.
Graduate goalie Kylie Mebs earned the win between the pipes, making 27 saves as the Lady Flames outshot the Profs, 36-29. Rowan turned the tables in Saturday's rematch — starting with a power-play goal by Maggie Bowman midway through the first period — dealing Liberty goalie Abby Manzewitsch (5-1) her first loss despite being outshot by the Lady Flames 27-20.
Liberty is off to its second-best start as a program after last year's 25-1 regular season record.
In their last home game, the Lady Flames dominated High Point, the first-place team in the ACCHL, winning 7-1 Nov. 2 at the LaHaye Ice Center. Liberty got two goals from junior forward and leading scorer Cora Williams (23G, 2A) and sophomore forward Patricia Misiak and single scores from Bardwell, freshman forward Sasha Haring, and Natter. The Lady Flames outshot the Panthers, 41-15, and senior goalie Abby Hodsden made 14 saves to secure the win.
On Nov. 21-22, Liberty will return to its home ice and conclude its fall semester schedule by competing in an ACCHL Showcase that it is hosting. The Lady Flames will play games against West Chester (Pa.) University that Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Virginia Tech that Saturday at 5:30 p.m. in the LIC.
