DI, DIII men’s volleyball teams off to 1-2, 2-1 starts at NCVF Nationals in Kansas City

Liberty is still battling for silver and gold bracket seedings in the 48-team Division I and Division III tournaments.
Liberty University's Division I and Division III men's volleyball teams opened tournament play in the National Collegiate Volleyball Federation (NCVF) Championships with mixed results in their respective 48-team brackets on Thursday at the Kansas City Convention Center.
The Flames' DI men started out 1-2 after two extremely competitive losses in pool play. They opened with a 27-25, 25-22 setback to Michigan, which went 2-1 in pool play to secure the second seed. They then swept San Diego State, 25-12, 25-18, before battling eventual pool champion Santa Clara (3-0) to a three-game setback, falling 25-23, 21-25, 16-14.
On Friday at 9 a.m. EST, Liberty will meet Ohio State in a challenge match that will help determine its seeding for the playoffs. The Buckeyes finished 2-1 in their pool with their only loss to UC-Santa Barbara.
Liberty's Division III team, meanwhile, started pool play with a 25-23, 25-21 setback against Missouri, which finished 3-0, before edging Connecticut, 28-26, 25-22, and Dayton, 26-24, 25-23 in Thursday's final two rounds. The Flames will face UC-Davis in Friday's challenge match at 10 a.m. EST.
Complete results are available online. The 16-team gold-, silver-, and bronze-level playoffs for both divisions are set to conclude on Saturday.
