Liberty won the consolation final after playing top-seeded Williams College and No. 2-seeded eventual tournament champion Duke to tight matches.
Liberty University's women's ultimate team, seeded fourth in its five-team pool, defeated third-seeded Dartmouth twice in last weekend's Rodeo 2024 tournament at the Smith River Sports Complex in Axton, Va., winning Saturday's pool-play match 9-4 before clinching third place in the five-team field by repeating the feat in Sunday's consolation game, by an 8-7 count.
"It took a great team effort in the last game to come back and win after being down five points in the first half," Lady Flames Head Coach Bethany (Fowle) Weldy said. "(Senior) Alanysse (Solomon), (sophomores) Ella (Padgett) and Maia (Dieken), and (junior) Treasure (Millhouse) all played great in zone defense."
Offensively, junior Abby Lasko made a number of strong passes to Solomon for scores and senior Grace Wilson successfully tossed a hammer throw to freshman Alaina Herzog for another key point.
The Lady Flames lost their second game of pool play to second-seeded, eventual tournament champion Duke, also by an 8-7 final, before being upset by fifth-seeded University of North Carolina Chapel Hill, 8-5, and falling to top-seeded, eventual runner-up Williams (Mass.) College, 10-3.
Liberty met Williams again in the first round of Sunday's bracket playoffs and played the Ephs much more competitively in a 9-6 defeat that sent it to the consolation final.
Complete results are available online.
Next up for the Lady Flames is the April 20-21 Virginia Conference Championships in Glen Allen, Va., where they will contend for a berth into the Atlantic Coast Regional Championships set for May 4-5 in Axton.
