High point rider Hutchinson helps Hunt Seat team leap into Region 4 lead

Liberty finished runner-up to Sweet Briar College in Sunday's IHSA show at Randolph-Macon College, but moved into first place in the point standings.
Liberty University's Hunt Seat equestrian team finished as reserve champions with 38 points, right behind Sweet Briar College with 40, but moved into first place in the IHSA Region 4 standings after Sunday's show hosted by Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va.
The host Yellow Jackets placed third with 30 points followed by the University of Mary Washington (28), Longwood University (21), William & Mary (18), Christopher Newport (18), University of Richmond (10), and Hampton University (1).
Senior John Hutchinson was the High Point Rider to lead the Flames after claiming a blue ribbon for his ride in Open Fences and a red ribbon in Open Flat.

In addition, the Lady Flames had a trio of white ribbon winners with juniors Anna Pemble (Open Fences) and Anna Rotter (Novice Flat) and freshman Sophie Battin (Limit Fences) each placing third.
Liberty's Western team will make its fall season debut Oct. 26-27 at perennial Region 4 power St. Andrews (N.C.) before the Hunt Seat team travels to Sweet Briar College on Nov. 2 and hosts a show at the Liberty Mountain Equestrian Center on Nov. 9.
The Western squad will close out fall semester with a two-day show at Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va., on Nov. 16-17.
