
Lady Flames beach team closes out spring season by sweeping visiting Erskine, Lynchburg

Liberty University’s women’s beach volleyball team dominated NCAA Division II Erskine (S.C.) College and NCAA Division III newcomer University of Lynchburg on Friday at the East Campus courts, on Senior Night for the Lady Flames’ five graduates.
Senior Kaitlyn Holbrook teamed with freshman Grace Cropper and junior Lizzy Armstrong to sweep their No. 1-seeded matches against Erskine and Lynchburg, respectively, 21-13, 21-10 and 21-11, 21-11. At No. 2, Liberty junior Syd Metzker joined forces with Armstrong and Cropper, respectively, to dominate Erskine, 21-8, 21-8, and survive the cross-town Hornets’ attack, 21-19, 21-10.
The senior duo of Taylor Arnold and Heather Forton swept Erskine’s challenger at No. 3 before Forton joined junior Kara Lecklider for the match against Lynchburg, in which they battled to a 21-19, 19-21, 15-13 victory.
Sophomores Jill Kater and Julia McGuirk won their No. 4-seeded match against Erskine, 21-11 and 21-8, before Kater and Arnold defeated UL’s No. 4 tandem, 21-12, 21-14.
Since neither Erskine nor Lynchburg brought a No. 5-seeded pair, Liberty sophomore Abbie Luke teamed with freshman BrennaRae Bentley to win an exhibition bout against the Lady Flames’ No. 6 duo of freshman Gracie Hall and sophomore Emma Taylor after the dual against Erskine. Luke also joined McGuirk in an exhibition victory over Hall and Bentley after the match against Lynchburg.
