Liberty University's College Hockey Federation (CHF) Division III men's hockey team swept conference foes College of Charleston (S.C.), High Point (N.C.), and Appalachian State (N.C.) by a combined 54-6 margin to end the regular season on a six-game winning streak.
The Flames (18-6, 10-0 ACCHL) set a record for regular-season wins with Saturday's 12-0 and Sunday's 7-0 sweep of ASU on Senior Night at the LaHaye Ice Center. They enter this Friday's through Sunday's ACCHL Championships at the Winston-Salem (N.C.) Fairgrounds Annex with plenty of momentum as they contend for their first-ever ACCHL tournament title.
As the No. 1 seed, Liberty received a first-round bye to Saturday's semifinals, when it will take on the winner of either No. 6 Christopher Newport University and No. 3 Coastal Carolina or the other quarterfinal matchup between No. 4 High Point and No. 5 Navy. The winner between No. 2 Rowan and No. 7 Appalachian State will play the other winner in the other semifinal matchup.
Liberty was seeded No. 1 last season's ACCHL tournament, but for the second year in a row lost to Coastal Carolina in the championship game.
This weekend's tournament will be a final tune-up for the March 10-15 CHF National Championships at Ice Line in West Chester, Pa.
Liberty will be in the same Pool G as No. 10 South Carolina, No. 18 Alabama, and No. 26 Fordham (N.Y.).
