Shotgun team beats JMU, UVA, Radford in home invitational

Liberty University's shotgun team had a strong showing at Saturday's Fall Sporting Clays Invitational at the Liberty Mountain Gun Club, where the Flames welcomed teams from James Madison, Radford, and Virginia for a 100-target competition.
"The event went well and we were blessed with good weather," Liberty Head Coach Dave Hartman said.
The Flames had the top two and three of the top five overall scorers and finished first out of four teams with 404 points, edging Radford (387), UVA (303), and JMU (290).
The Flames' top five of sophomore Carl Pongs (88), junior James Bushnell (85), freshman Elijah Labrozzi (79), senior Casey Williams (77), and sophomore Jonathan Britton (75), combined to hit 404 out of a possible 500 targets.
Senior Tommy Hartman (74), junior Cade Schindel (71), sophomore Justin Johnson (69), junior Liz Wesner (67), and freshman Victoria Hendrix (65) also competed for Liberty, which had 10 of a total of 43 competitors, second only to the Highlanders' 17.
Next weekend, the Flames will send split squads to the JMU Invitational and Bob Jones Invitational Scrimmage on Saturday before returning to the Prince George's County Trap and Skeet Center in Glenn Dale, Md., to try to defend their title at the ACUI Upper East Coast Regional Championships on Nov. 9.
