Rett McGibbon

Head Coach

While earning a B.Sc. in Math, Chemistry, and Biology, with a minor in French at Liberty University, Coach McGibbon began his hockey career as a goaltender on Liberty’s Division II team. At the time, he also served as a Play-by-Play and Color Broadcaster for the ACHA national tournaments, on both radio and live stream. Immediately following graduation, he was offered full-time employment as Manager of Operations and Facilities for LU’s Club Sports Department.

In 2009, Coach McGibbon became the inaugural head coach for the Men’s Division III Hockey team at Liberty. He also took the position of Senior Hockey Broadcaster for Liberty, which aired many games and tournaments on ESPN 3 and on live local television. Most recently, he completed his M.Ed. and has spent 3 years as a high school Math teacher.

Today, Coach McGibbon brings over 10 years of experience in sports broadcasting, 6 years coaching collegiate hockey, 7 years of post-secondary education, and 3 years of Sports Operations and Facilities management to the bench. In addition to serving as the head coach of the Liberty University Men’s Division III hockey team, Coach McGibbon is currently employed as a full-time Sports Anchor and Senior Hockey Producer for the Liberty Flames Sports Network and weekly television show, “GAME ON” which reaches over 30 million households across the country.

As the DIII team enters into their 9th season, the coaching staff look to bring home the program's first ever national title.

Coach McGibbon and his wife Diana have been married for 8 years and reside in Lynchburg, VA with their six children.
