Paul Bloomfield is entering his 10th season at the helm of the Lady Flames D1 women's hockey program. Bloomfield has been the program's only coach and has taken the team from humble beginnings in 2006-2007 to guiding the programs to its first ACHA Women's D1 National Championship in 2014-2015. In that same year, Paul would also be selected by his coaching peers to earn his first Coach of the Year Award for his work.
Coach Bloomfield's ability to recruit and develop talented student-athletes has also been impressive. Since the 2012-2013 season, 21 members of the Lady Flames hockey program have been named to ACHA All American and ACHA All Tournament Teams. During the 2014-2015 season, Chantal Lischynski was named ACHA All Tournament MVP, the first Lady Flame ever to earn that award. Sarah Stevenson, a four year standout forward wento on to set the Lady Flames record for most career assists (109) was drafted 17th overall in the 4th round of the Canadian Women's Hockey League by the Toronto Furies. Stevenson was the first Lady Flame ever drafted by a professional women's hockey team.
Under Coach Bloomfield's tutelage, the Lady Flames have amassed an impressive record of 207-80-20. Following the late Dr. Falwell's admonition "If it is Christian, it should be better," Coach Bloomfield has driven hard to be better through unity, dedication, and hard work.
Coach Bloomfield goes on to say "I love Liberty and all that it stands for and it is an honor to be a small part of the great school." Bloomfield grew up in South-Western Ontario and moved to Virginia in 1999, with his wife, Sharon and their children, Julie (BS 05, MED 07, Eds 11) and Scott (BA 07), to be a part of Liberty and the hockey programs. "We are a hockey family and each one of us has had a vital part in our team's success."
