Coach Gaunt is a graduate and current employee of Liberty University as the Rock Wall Coordinator. He graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Exercise Science – Fitness Specialist. Coach Gaunt has been married for a year to Heather Gaunt, the Associate Director of Fitness and Programming at Liberty University.
Gaunt started his climbing career and passion here at Liberty University as a student in 2009. He has since been climbing for 7 years. As the Rock Wall Coordinator he had the privilege of designing the new rock climbing facility in the LaHaye Recreation and Fitness Center. Since then, the facility usage and program participation has increased to an average of over 100 students per day, and it continues to grow with the addition of the Club Sports climbing team.
Coach Gaunt has an extensive background in competitive cycling, which has bolstered his career and training into the sport of climbing. He brings extensive knowledge and experience to the head coach position by having a personal understanding of the progression and needs of high level athletes. With the support and enablement of club sports, Coach Gaunt is very optimistic and excited to see what the first season with the climbing team will hold.
