Marlene Gray has served as a 4 H Rifle and Pistol Instructor for more than 10 years. She is a 4 H Level 2 Rifle Instructor Trainer, serves on the Virginia State 4 H Shooting Council as the Rifle Chair and is a 4 H All Star. Her interest began in the shooting sports when 5 of her 6 children became involved in 4 H Shooting Sports youth development program and her three daughters were 4 H State Shooting Ambassadors. Seeing the benefits of teaching young people, the life skills such as leadership, responsibly, decision making and goal setting while using the shooting sports as a tool was a natural fit for Coach Gray with her 25 plus years of teaching experience in the homeschool community. She has the NRA Range Safety Officer Certification and the NRA Smallbore Rifle Coach Certification.
Coach Marlene enjoyed coaching the first-year season of the LU Club Sports Rifle Team as they qualified two teams to compete in smallbore and air rifle at the NRA Intercollegiate Club Rifle Championships at Fort Benning, GA. This team accomplishment will propel the rifle program at LU for future success.
Marlene was born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pa. She attended Penn State University and graduated with BS in Microbiology and completed Medical Technology internship at Alleghany General Hospital in 1986. She has been married to Kevin Gray for 33 years. Their last child will graduate high school in 2020 from their homeschool. Three adult children are married. The Grays have one granddaughter and another grandchild expected in the fall. Two children have graduated from LU and two children are currently students at LU. Marlene enjoys hiking and running.
