Coach Rodriguez has always had a passion for racquetball since learning to play in the mid 70’s. While living in Northern Virginia, he was selected to be the Racquetball Professional for Courts Royal Merrifield. As a retired individual, he has been able to take his racquetball experience and provide volunteer work at the Central Virginia YMCA in Lynchburg, VA. He was selected to be a Tournament Director for the 2009 James River Open and has continued being the Tournament Director to this present time. The tournament was moved to Liberty in 2015 and is now known as the “Liberty University James River Open” and is used as a fundraiser for the Liberty Racquetball team. In 2017 he was selected to take over as Tournament Director for the “Commonwealth Games of Virginia” and has continued being the Tournament Director to this present time.
Coach Rodriguez says his greatest achievement was being selected as the Coach for the Liberty Racquetball team and owes his thanks to many friends who have supported him, especially Coach Handy and Coach Boettger. His biggest supporter of course is his wife, Jeri, who he says has stood by him with love and understanding.
Aside from being Coach, Rodriguez also serves on the Commonwealth of Virginia Racquetball Association governing board and has been a Board member since 2010. Through “The American Professional Racquetball Organization (AmPRO)” Coach Rodriguez is certified as a “Coach” and as a “Level 3 Instructor”. Rodriguez has competed in numerous tournaments throughout the US to include the “USA National Singles Racquetball Championships”. Because of his racquetball achievements, Team Head USA selected him to be a sponsored player in 2011 and has continued being a Team Head sponsored player to this present time.
For the season 2017-2018 Coach Daniel was selected as the Club Sports “Coach Of The Year”, and during the National Collegiate Championship of 2018, Coach Rodriguez was honored by the USA Racquetball and the Collegiate Council by being selected the 2018 “Coach Of The Year”.
