After a dominant career as a right-side hitter for Liberty University’s indoor men’s volleyball team for five seasons, playing a prominent role in the Flames’ emergence as a national power including its first No. 1 NCVF national ranking, Josh Knapp came on staff as an Assistant Coach before being named Kaleb VanDePerre’s successor after he moved on to North Alabama in mid-January 2023.
As a 6-foot, 8-inch-tall player, coached by both VanDePerre and NCVF Coach of the Year Bryan Rigg, who recruited him, Knapp led the Flames in kills, aces, and blocks and was a candidate for NCVF Player of the Year, an award no Liberty player has ever received. As an assistant coach under VanDePerre, Knapp served as the voice of the coaching staff during matches and introduced several coaching strategies and systems that he plans to implement.
