Coach Kimi Counts is a 2016 graduate of the University of Mary Washington, where she competed on the Varsity Equestrian Team for four years and served as team captain. During her collegiate career, she was a two-time IHSA Regional Cacchione Cup Champion, awarded annually to the region’s top Open rider. She qualified for the IHSA National Championships twice in the Cacchione Cup class, earning a 10th-place finish in 2015.

As a Lynchburg native, Kimi returned home after graduating. She has served as an Assistant Coach for the Liberty Equestrian Team since 2016 and earned her master's degree in Sports Management–Tourism from Liberty in 2021.
