Hunt Seat riders reap several ribbons, win one of two shows at Mary Washington

The Lady Flames will host the final regular-season show Saturday before qualifying riders will compete in the Region 4 Championships at first-place Sweet Briar College on Feb. 21.
With the postseason rapidly approaching, Liberty University's Hunt Seat equestrian team remained in contention for the Region 4 regular-season championship this past weekend with strong showings in two separate IHSA events at the University of Mary Washington on Saturday and Sunday.
After scoring 37 points to finish runner-up to the Reserve Champion host Eagles (39 points) on Saturday, five points behind co-Team Champions Randolph-Macon College and Sweet Briar College, Liberty won Sunday's show with 40 points.
In an extremely close competition, the Lady Flames were followed by Reserve Champion Sweet Briar (39), Christopher Newport University (35), Randolph Macon College (33), Mary Washington (33), Longwood University (32), and the College of William & Mary (25), with the University of Richmond (8) also represented at the show.

Individually on Saturday, senior Morgen Anderson finished first for Liberty in Intermediate Flat, while sophomore Juliana Klapper placed first in her Limit Fences division and second in Limit Flat, and junior Madeleine Hammond also won her Limit Fences division and finished third in Intermediate Flat.
Sophomore Kate Love earned a blue ribbon in the Novice Flat division while freshman Anna Talmadge and junior Natalie den Dulk both won their respective divisions in the Introductory competition.
Senior Anna Pemble finished second in Open Fences and third in Open Flat, while junior Sophie Battin placed second in Limit Fences, junior Alex Dixon took second in Pre Novice Flat, senior Anna Rotter landed in third in Limit Flat, and freshman Kelley Berlin came in third in Novice Flat.
On Sunday, the Lady Flames fared even better as Hammond captured a blue ribbon in the Intermediate Flat division and clinched Region 4 Championship bids in that event and in Limit Fences; senior Leah Hoffman finished first in Intermediate Fences; Klapper won in Limit Flat to qualify for regionals in that event; senior Lyla Ludwig finished first in Limit Flat; Dixon showed improvement with a blue ribbon in Pre-Novice Flat; Battin was runner-up in Limit Fences to secure a regional bid in that event; Berlin moved up one spot to second in Novice Flat; and den Dulk placed second in her Introductory division.
With the first-place team showing, Liberty (244 points) gained one point back on Sweet Briar (251), which had overtaken the Lady Flames atop the Region 4 standings with its dominant performance at William & Mary on Nov. 16. Randolph-Macon (228) rests in third place, followed by Mary Washington (200), CNU (195), Longwood (157), William & Mary (128), and Richmond (57).
This Saturday, starting at 10 a.m. at the Liberty Mountain Equestrian Center, Liberty will host the final Region 4 regular-season show before qualifying riders will travel to Sweet Briar for the Zone 4, Region 4 Championships on Feb. 21. Â
