
Hunt Seat riders overtaken by Sweet Briar in regular season finale, set to host Saturday’s Region 4 Championships

Liberty let a 10-point lead going into the last show slip away but will send seven riders to regionals; Liberty's Western team had three riders place in its Region 4 Championships.
The Vixens won the regular-season title with 284 points, barely eclipsing the Flames' and Lady Flames' total of 278. Mary Washington (252) landed in third place followed by Randolph Macon (248), William & Mary (198), Christopher Newport (193), Longwood (132), and Richmond (53).
Liberty had four riders place in the top three for their respective events. Junior Katie Staib earned a blue ribbon in Intermediate Flat; senior Lane Steffy took second in Introductory; and sophomore Madeleine Hammond placed third in Limit Flat while junior Anna Rotter came in third in Novice Flat.
The Flames and Lady Flames qualified seven riders competing in the IHSA Hunt Seat Region 4 Championships, set to start Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Liberty University Equestrian Center's indoor arena. The event is a qualifier for the April 5 Zone 4 Championships to be hosted by Virginia Tech in Blacksburg, Va.
Senior Region 4 regular-season High Point Rider John Hutchinson, who totaled 74 points on the season, will represent Liberty in Open Flat and Open Fences while senior teammate Tristian Battin will compete in Intermediate Flat and Intermediate Fences, senior Giulia D'Addesi will compete in Limit Fences and Limit Flat and Staib will ride in Limit Flat. Both senior Hannah Summerlin and Hammond will compete in Novice Flat, and sophomore Sophia Golden will compete in the Introductory category.
On Sunday, Liberty's Western equestrian team finished fifth in the Region 4 Championships hosted by North Carolina State University in Raleigh, N.C., behind overall champion St. Andrews (N.C.), Clemson (S.C.), the host Wolfpack, and Virginia Tech.
Individually, for the season, senior Abigail Rice placed fifth in Level Two Horsemanship; freshman Rebekah Isenhour came in second in Beginner Horsemanship; senior Tiffany Walker finished second in Ranch Riding; and senior Amanda Mast placed fourth in Level One Horsemanship. The Team also had three riders place at Regionals: sophomore Alexandra Dixon earned third place in Level Two Horsemanship and third in Ranch Riding; senior Alexis Evans came in third in Beginner Horsemanship; and senior Abby Rice placed sixth in Level One Horsemanship.
