Members of the Hunt Seat equestrian team earned a spectrum of colored ribbons at their first IHSA event Saturday in Smithfield, Va.
Hunt Seat riders open Region 4 schedule with third-place finish at CNU

The Lady Flames featured three blue ribbon winners in last Saturday’s IHSA event, and they will host another show next Saturday at the Liberty Mountain Equestrian Center.
Liberty University's Hunt Seat equestrian team opened its fall schedule by placing third at an Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Region 4 event this past Saturday at Christopher Newport University's Foxtail Farm in Smithfield, Va.
Sweet Briar College received High Overall Honors in the team competition with 32 points, followed closely by Randolph-Macon College and CNU which tied for the Reserve Champion award with 30 points. Liberty followed in third place with 28 points followed by Longwood University (26), the College of William & Mary (22), and Mary Washington University (16).
Top riders for Liberty included senior Lyla Ludwig and sophomore Keira Kraftson, who both placed first in Limit Fences, and senior Anna Rotter, who earned a blue ribbon in Novice Flat. Red ribbon winners for the Lady Flames included senior Anna Pemble (second in Open Flat), sophomore Abby Griffith (second in Intermediate Fences), junior Madeleine Hammond (second in Limit Fences), sophomore Juliana Klapper (second in Limit Flat and Limit Fences), junior Sophia Golden (second in Pre Novice Flat), and junior Sophia Battin (second in Limit Flat). Hammond also placed third in Intermediate Flat and sophomore Kate Love captured a white ribbon in Novice Flat.
Next weekend, Liberty will host a Hunt Seat IHSA show at the Liberty Mountain Equestrian Center over Homecoming on Saturday, Nov. 1, starting at 10 a.m., before traveling to Sweet Briar College in nearby Amherst, Va., for another on Sunday, Nov. 2, at 10 a.m., when the Lady Flames will look to trim the Vixens' overall lead in their home arena.
Liberty will then conclude its fall schedule with two shows the weekend of Nov. 15-16 with back-to-back shows at Randolph-Macon College in Ashland, Va., and William & Mary in Toano, Va.
