The rink will host DII men's hockey against Penn State this Friday night and Saturday and DI and DIII men's and DI and DII women's games next weekend.
Between Christmas and New Year's Eve, the surface beneath the LaHaye Ice Center ice was repainted to give the rink a fresh look for the spring semester.
"We were basically done after five days," said Club Sports Assistant Director of Facilities Justin Forth, who oversaw the project. "We had five people tearing out the ice before IceOps reinstalled the logos and another eight people helped fill it out afterwards. It looks a little bit nicer now and is good to go for the new year."
In early August, soon after a fresh coat of paint had been applied to the undersurface, the center's newly installed Evapcold compressor shut down unexpectedly overnight, melting the ice and leaving the paint blurred, especially at the red line and blue lines, with no time before the start of the season to redo the project.
"We used vinyl blue lines instead of blue paint this time and saved all of the logos, which are vinyl as well," Forth said. "If for some reason it were to go down again, we wouldn't have to worry about the lines running."
Liberty's ACHA Division I men's team practiced on the freshly frozen sheet of ice before traveling to Finland on Jan. 4. The rink will host its first games of the spring semester this Friday at 7:30 p.m. and Saturday at 4:15 p.m. when the Flames' ACHA DII men's team hosts Penn State.
