
Saunders, Barnett to ride on for Liberty equestrian teams at nationals in Kentucky

Liberty University equestrian riders Maggie Saunders and Virginia Barnett will be competing at this week’s Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) and American Quarter Horse Association (AQHA)/National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) National Championships held at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington, Ky., after qualifying at their Hunt Seat Zone and Western National Semi-Final events, respectively, this spring.
Saunders, who was the individual Open Flat champion at the Region 4 Championships hosted by the Liberty Equestrian Center on Feb. 25, was also crowned the IHSA Zone 4 champion at the show held at Goucher College on April 1. The junior from Troy, Va., will be competing in the individual Open Flat championships on Thursday in Lexington.
Barnett, a senior from Jacksonville, Fla., who will graduate next weekend with a B.S. in Business Administration: Entrepreneurship with a minor in Government, won her class in Ranch Riding at the Western Semi Finals in Ocala, Fla., on March 17 to earn her spot in Friday’s AQHA/NRHA nationals event.
