Liberty University's rock climbing team posted strong showings at Saturday's Mid-Atlantic Division of the Voorhees Collegiate Qualifier at the Gravity Vault in Voorhees, N.J.
The Flames were paced by graduate Brian Taylor's first-place finish in the men's advanced lead/top-rope category and sophomore Dylan Reese's second-place showing in the advanced bouldering category.
Meanwhile, the Lady Flames were led by junior Arabella King's first-place finish in the women's advanced bouldering category. Complete results are available online.
"I am ecstatic about the results of the competition," Liberty Head Coach Tyler Campbell said. "The competition was very strong in the men's and women's bouldering categories and featured some of the top competitors from the Mid-Atlantic region last year."
This weekend, nine team members will be back in action when they travel to Send It Climbing for another collegiate competition in Norfolk, Va. Then on April 2, the Flames and Lady Flames will contend for Mid-Atlantic Regional placings and USA Collegiate Climbing National Championships qualifications at GOAT Climbing Gym in Hackensack, N.J. The top 13 climbers in each discipline at that event will advance to Collegiate Nationals, set for April 28-30 in Colorado Springs, Colo.
"I am hopeful that three of our athletes will qualify," Campbell said.
