Liberty used a strong individual performance from 143-pound senior Claudia Keanini, who won four matches over the weekend, to prevail in two of its seven duals.
Liberty University's women's wrestling team rode four individual match victories from senior co-captain Claudia Keanini at 143 pounds to help it win two dual meets at last Friday's and Saturday's Patriot Duals hosted by the University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg, Ky.
The Lady Flames (3-8) won a total of six individual matches in their first four dual meets on the opening day, which started with a 23-15 loss to Montreat (N.C.) College, a 48-1 setback to Campbellsville (Ky.) University, a 35-8 defeat at the hands of Siena Heights (Mich.) University, and a 26-18 loss to Brewton Parker (Ga.) College, coached by former Flames wrestler Josh Sturgill ('15).
In Saturday's action, Liberty defeated St. Andrews (N.C.) University, 19-10, and Lincoln Memorial (Tenn.) University, 25-15, before being bested by Lourdes (Ohio) University, 40-5.
Besides Keanini, the Lady Flames got two victories from both sophomore Mackenzie Yates and freshman Anna-Mari Servin at 155 pounds, and individual triumphs from junior Hannah Fisher at 191, sophomore Madison Alcon at 136, and senior Maile Ka'ahanui at 170 pounds over the course of the competition.
Following Christmas Break, Liberty will open its spring semester schedule by traveling to the Robert Horton Memorial Tournament in Franklin Springs, Ga., on Jan. 21.
