A total of 13 members from Liberty University's men's swimming team will fly to Florida on Thursday to represent Liberty Aquatics at this weekend's American Spring Classic, a USA Swimming meet hosted by the Berkeley Barracudas at the Berkeley Preparatory School's Cantonis Pool, a short-course outdoor pool in Tampa, Fla.
Besides Liberty, teams in attendance will include Woodbridge Aquatic Club, Weston Swimming, and Ridgefield Aquatics, among others. The competition will feature eight sessions with preliminaries and finals held on all four days, Thursday through Sunday.
"It's a club meet, but it will probably be comparable to a lot of the college meets we go to," Flames Assistant Coach Blake Dunson said. "It's an outdoor pool, so we are excited about that, to see something new for the guys. It will be a pretty busy four days, but it will be good."
The Flames' swimmers who will be competing include junior team captain Ben Klipp, junior Matt Davidson, and senior Robert Boehme, who will be seeking a USA Open Water Nationals Qualification.
Joseph Boehme, Elijah Gocotano, Joseph Boehm, Christian Dilena, Jonathan Tonnell, Carter Helsby, Isaac Parish, Jordan Stackpole, and Mathew Walker be making their collegiate competitive debuts as freshmen. Sophomore Wade Lawrence and Zachary Mallory round out Liberty's list of swimmers traveling to the Flames' final competition before hosting the Liberty Collegiate Cup in conjunction with Collegiate Club Swimming's (CCS) Virtual National Championships from April 9-11 in the Liberty Natatorium.
