Rowers Miller, Barrett featured on latest Club Sports videos

Lydia Miller, a junior on Liberty University's women's crew team, and Spencer Barrett, a sophomore on the men's squad, shared their perspectives on rowing for the Lady Flames and Flames on these player profile interviews conducted by Liberty Club Sports Videography Coordinator Patrick Strawn.
Miller, who swam in high school in Rochester, Mich., enjoys the teamwork associated with the sport she adopted at Liberty.
"It's excruciating," said Miller, who studying international relations and plans to pursuing a career in government and possibly start up her own rowing club after graduation. "It's extremely physically and mentally difficult and it causes you to really think about why you're doing something and why you're putting yourself through that kind of agony or pain. It's kind of a way of life. Things are difficult, but crew teaches you to always push through, no matter what."
"Honestly, it's just a lot of fun," Miller said. "I really enjoy competition and sports in general. I enjoy the friendships that come from it. It's a really unique sport and since you're all doing the same thing together in the exact same way, there's a lot of camaraderie with your teammates."
Barrett, who is currently pursuing a degree in criminal justice and plans to join the military after graduation, discussed how he is able to witness to other rowers on road trips.
"Rowing really helps me profess my faith, especially at big regattas," Barrett said. "A lot of teams don't know where you're from and … that gives you an opportunity to talk to them about your university and your faith and about what Liberty University stands for and ask them questions about what they believe."
