Lady Flames earn two blue ribbons at first Hunt Seat show

Kendall Carter, a junior from Bristol, Va., and Leah Wright, a sophomore from Troutville, Va., captured blue ribbons for Liberty University's Hunt Seat team at Saturday's opening show hosted by Averett University in Danville, Va.
Carter, a late replacement for injured junior Liz Chenelle, the reigning Hunt Seat champion and Intercollegiate Horse Show Association (IHSA) Zone qualifier, also finished as the Reserve Champion Rider of the day in her first show representing the Lady Flames.
Liberty also had second-place red ribbon showings from Cassandra Steptoe, a junior team captain from Kingsport, Tenn., Morgan Faber, a freshman from Richmond, Va., and Morgan Murphy, a senior from Pelham, N.C.
Wet and muddy conditions were less than desirable for many riders and the horses they were assigned and Liberty finished eighth out of 10 teams from its region in the show.
"The team did not fare well," said Jim Arrigon, first-year executive director of the Liberty Equestrian Center. "We didn't even have all our positions filled so we took some zeros in our score. We will place much higher this Sunday at Virginia Tech."
The Region 5 favorite Hokies earned Team Champion and Wake Forest was the Reserve Team Champion at Averett. Virginia Tech will host Sunday's Hunt Seat event, starting at 9 a.m.
