Kyle Garcia and Bram Erickson each had a pair of goals as the Liberty Flames Division I Men's Hockey Team won its sixth-consecutive game Saturday 5-0 over Mercyhurst to complete a two-game sweep at the LaHaye Ice Center. The Flames defeated the Lakers Friday night 8-2.
"He (Garcia) has a lot of ability, he is a solid two-way player," said Kirk Handy, Flames head coach. "He really is getting stronger each time out."
It was Erickson, however, who got things started for Liberty as he pounded home a loose puck past Lakers goaltender Bryan Danczak to stoke the Flames. Erickson added his second about six minutes later to stake Liberty to a 2-0 lead early.
Garcia found a loose puck about a minute later while battling for position in front of the net and picked up his third goal of the weekend to make it 3-0.
Cam Bakker ripped one top shelf with less than 30 seconds to go in the second to make the score 4-0.
Garcia closed out the evening, putting another loose puck in to make it 5-0 Liberty.
Flames goalie Clayton Brown stopped all 18 shots by Mercyhurst to get his first shutout of the year and his fourth win.
Liberty concludes its season-opening eight game homestand with a pair against Robert Morris University next Friday and Saturday, with both games set to begin at 7 p.m.
